Allergen Aware

Our Allergy Policy can be found on our centralised Policies page in the Watergrove Trust section.

Advocacy groups such as The Allergy Team and Allergy UK don’t support a total ban on allergens in schools. This is because:

  • It’s almost impossible to enforce it
  • It’s impractical to ban all allergens (for example, milk)
  • It can create a false sense of security

We follow the recommendation that, instead of banning allergens, we make our schools ‘allergen aware’. Please note that the school as a whole does not guarantee a completely allergen-free environment. However, this policy will be utilised to minimise the risk of exposure to allergens, encourage self-responsibility, and plan for an effective response to possible emergencies. Due to the presence of allergens in the school kitchen, the catering service cannot guarantee school meals to be 100% allergen free.

Lunch Money

School dinners cost £2.70 per day; £13.50 for the week. Dinner money should be paid in advance using Arbor, our online payments system.

Free School Meals.

If you think your child may be entitled to free school meals due to your personal financial circumstances, please visit https://www.rochdale.gov.uk/benefits-money/free-school-meals for further information.

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM).

Free School meals are available to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Please still visit the link above to apply for Free School Meals to Rochdale Council if you would usually qualify due to your personal financial circumstances. This information is used to calculate how much Pupil Premium money school receives each year. This money finances many of the extra activities and support we have in place for the children and we are concerned school would lose this funding if online applications are not completed.
